My way to learn new words efficiently
My way to learn new words efficiently
There are many good ways of learning new vocabulary efficiently, but each learner is individual and has to find the way which is most sympathetic to them. The way I prefer to learn new words is to write them down over and over. If I have given a text, which contains vocabulary that is unknown to me, first of all, I go through the text and work out the words I am not aware of. Most of the times I do this with help of dictionaries, my electronic translator, online dictionaries such as linguee.com or with my personal living dictionary, my flatmate Christina, who has been raised bilingual. After I have worked out the words I write them down on the computer and by hand. I go through the computer written list for several times and when I think I can handle the new vocabulary I look at the German words, say them in English and try to write them down again. I keep on repeating this process until I can handle the vocabulary in my sleep. Sure, I think www.vocabulary.com and so on are very helpful sites to practice vocabulary, but this is more of a game or fun for me and I do not remember all of the words that cross my way on these websites. If a word is new to me, I have to read and write it more than just one time to have it engraved in my brain. Therefore, for me, the most efficient way to learn new vocabulary is the good old traditional way. J
